Who exhibits and buys at SHOT Show
The Shooting, Hunting, and Outdoor Trade Show is owned by the National Shooting Sports Foundation (NSSF) and managed by ConvExx. Its exhibitor rules describe a forum for firearms, ammunition, law enforcement products, cutlery, outdoor apparel, optics, and related products and services. NSSF reported that the 2026 show drew more than 53,000 industry professionals from all 50 states and 126 countries, with 2,744 exhibitors across more than 834,500 net square feet.
It is strictly a trade event. Admission is limited to qualified businesses and government entities in the shooting, hunting, outdoor, and tactical trades, every attendee has to document both the company and their own employment or ownership, and no one under 16 gets in, infants included. Retailers, range owners, distributors, and law enforcement buyers come to see new lines, write orders, and meet the people behind the product.
SHOT Show across the Venetian Expo and Caesars Forum
SHOT Show 2027 runs January 19 to 22 in two buildings: the Venetian Expo at 201 Sands Avenue and Caesars Forum at 3911 Koval Lane. Most of the floor is at the Venetian, in Halls A through D on Level 2, Hall G on Level 1, and a set of ballrooms and meeting rooms; Caesars Forum holds the booths numbered 70000 and up. The exhibit floor is open 8:30 a.m. to 5:30 p.m. Tuesday through Thursday and 8:30 a.m. to 4 p.m. on Friday.
Freeman is the official service contractor in both buildings, handling material handling, labor, carpet, and furniture. The trades behind the walls differ, though. At the Venetian, Encore supplies booth lighting, internet, and rigging for signs over 200 pounds or with power, and the venue takes the electrical orders; at Caesars Forum, Encore handles electrical and all rigging. The exhibitor resource center splits its forms by building, so order from the right one.
SHOT Show height limits by hall and booth type
The 2027 display regulations follow the cubic content rule, so a booth can build right up to its front edge, but the maximum height depends on where the booth sits. Nothing may rise above it, hanging signs and banners included:
- Halls A through D (booths 10000 to 17000): 12 feet for linear and walk-through booths, 25 feet for peninsulas of 400 square feet or more and for islands
- Caesars Forum (booths 70000 to 78000): 12 feet for linear and walk-through booths, 23 feet for peninsulas and islands
- Venetian Ballroom (booths 20000 to 21000): 12 feet for linear booths, 16 feet for peninsulas and islands
- Hall G and the Bellini, Titian, and Veronese rooms: 10 feet for linear booths, 12 feet for peninsulas and islands
- Casanova, Galileo, and Marco Polo rooms: 10 feet for every booth
- Peninsulas and islands may run lighting truss above the limit, as long as no graphics or signage sit above it; products that exceed it need written approval
Firearm display and security rules for SHOT Show booths
The firearm rules shape the fixtures more than anything else in the manual. From the 2027 exhibitor rules and the resource center:
- Every displayed firearm is deactivated by removing or shortening its firing pin or striker; a trigger lock doesn't count, and the action must open so the chamber can be checked
- SHOT Show Safety Advisors inspect and tag firearms in each booth before the first show day, and anything arriving later goes to the Safety Advisors Office
- Handguns on display are fixed to a counter, back wall, or display stand with chain or aircraft cable no longer than 3 feet
- After hours, firearms go to secured storage, stay locked to the display, or stay under a guard who remains in the booth; empty gun cases aren't accepted in storage
- No live ammunition, powder, or primers; dummy rounds need a drilled primer or base, and no real or simulated discharge with an audible report is allowed
- Air guns can be shot only in a fully enclosed, pre-approved gallery inside the booth, no larger than 300 square feet and using plastic projectiles
- Items that meet the federal definition of a machinegun carry signage marking them for military and law enforcement only
Designing a SHOT Show booth around product people want to hold
Buyers judge a rifle by picking it up, so the display becomes a set of tethered stations: slatwall, rail, and counter fixtures with cable anchors built in, hidden cable runs, and enough slack, within the 3-foot limit for handguns, to shoulder or sight the product without leaning into the aisle. Settle anchor points with the product team before fabrication, because moving a long-gun wall on site means drilling finished panels.
Security belongs in the floor plan. Lockable cabinets, a storage closet, and clear sightlines from staff positions to every wall help during the day; at night, the choice between cabling everything in place and walking product to secured storage decides how much lockable display you need. Put the meeting area for retail and distributor buyers away from the busiest wall, and light finishes and engraving without glare on glass. Ordering is for future delivery only, since cash sales and on-site delivery are prohibited.
Hanging signs, LED walls, and multi-level booths at SHOT Show
Hanging signs are limited to islands and peninsulas of 400 square feet or more in Halls A through D and at Caesars Forum. Linear booths, walk-throughs, meeting rooms, and the ballroom, Hall G, and smaller room ranges can't hang them. Any sign or graphic more than 8 feet up that faces a neighboring booth has to sit at least 10 feet away from it, and LED signs built into the booth structure need an engineer-stamped drawing.
Booths of 400 square feet or more and every multi-level exhibit file an Exhibit Space Design Notification with renderings by early November. Covered and multi-level structures need wet-stamped engineering drawings, two exits once a deck passes 300 square feet or nine people, and no spiral stairs; to go without sprinklers, they're held to two levels. Drawings for anything over 12 feet must be on hand for inspection. The 2027 rules cap booth noise at 75 decibels and prohibit fog, smoke, and drones, so plan atmosphere with lighting and video.
SHOT Show move-in, freight, and labor rules
Move-in starts a week early. For 2027, Halls A, B, C, and G at the Venetian open to exhibitors on January 12, the rest of the halls and the meeting rooms on January 17, and Caesars Forum only in the last few days before opening. Freight arrives by target time, assigned by booth number, and displays must be in place by 3 p.m. on Monday, January 18. Dismantle labor can't start until 5 p.m. on Friday, January 22, when firearm crates return to booths first; Caesars Forum must be clear by 5 p.m. Saturday, and the Venetian's Halls A through C and G by 5 p.m. Monday, January 25.
Freeman runs material handling and an advance warehouse that takes shipments from mid-December through January 8 at standard rates, and common-carrier trucks check in at a marshaling yard about 30 minutes from the show. Firearms ship separately under security labels. Union labor holds jurisdiction over installing and dismantling exhibits unless your own full-time employees do the work, and they can't use saws or power tools beyond drills and screwdrivers, or stand on a ladder over 30 inches. Outside builders work as exhibitor-appointed contractors, wear show wristbands instead of badges, and file the EAC application by December 18, 2026.
A SHOT Show planning timeline through the holidays
As general guidance, count back from a mid-January move-in with the holidays in the way, and set the budget early; the guide to what a custom booth costs explains the main drivers. January is crowded, too: the Las Vegas trade show calendar shows World of Concrete at the convention center the same week, so book crews and trucks early. Our trade show checklist covers the smaller steps, and the RFP template helps when you're comparing builders. Using the 2027 deadlines:
- Summer: confirm your booth number and building, then brief your builder on the product lineup
- September and October: concept, 3D design, and the firearm display plan with every anchor point drawn
- Early November: the design notification for booths of 400 square feet or more, with stamped drawings for multi-level or covered structures
- December 15: Freeman's advance-rate orders and material handling; December 18: EAC applications; December 22: Venetian electrical, rigging, and utility orders
- January: freight meets its target time and the booth is set by 3 p.m. on January 18
